Hiring Your Attorney in a Criminal Case Over the Internet

Things to be Aware of When Hiring Your Attorney in a California Criminal Case Over the Internet

The internet is good because it gives you a lot of different choices and you can look at different lawyers.

A lot of attorneys have videos out there like me so you can see what the lawyer looks like, how they talk, how they represent things, and also if they're the right lawyer for you.  You want to feel comfortable that your lawyer knows what they're doing.

Mill Law Firms

One big thing that I've seen having practiced for almost 30 years and been in practice since the internet has been used to try to hire an attorney, is a lot of these mill firms out there where:

  • an attorney is using their face and credentials to try to sell the would-be client, and
  • that attorney never goes to court or does anything on the case.

In other words, it's just basically a figure head of the law firm.  Besides me thinking this is unethical and really tricking clients, it really puts you in a bad position.

Because what ends up happening is, you end up not knowing who your attorney is. So, that attorney that is the figure head — that's putting their face on everything — that attorney has nothing to do with your case.

So, they're going to hire some younger lawyers that they're going to pay inferior money.  They're going to divide up the money that you pay them.  You don't want that.

You don't want to be in a position where your attorney is not the person that you think they are.  If you really end up looking at the credentials of the attorney that they give you, that attorney is young, is inexperienced, hasn't done cases.

False Representations

So, that's one big thing to be weary of.  Another big thing to be weary of is lawyers or people who work for them, just telling you stuff that you want to hear.

I can't tell you how many people call me and tell me, oh yeah, the lawyer said I could file this motion, the lawyer said I could get the case dismissed.

The lawyer knows absolutely nothing about their case but is making false representations to them to try to get their business.

We don't do that at the Hedding Law Firm.  We never had and we never will.  We're going to tell you the genuine hard facts about your case when we meet with you. We're not going to promise you things that we don't have the answer for at this point.

We could certainly talk in generalities about your case and other cases that I've had that are similar to yours. But to say this is going to happen or that's gonna happen, etc., without even seeing the other side, without seeing the police reports, without investigating the case, that's a really difficult thing to do.

So, people who are just doing that off-the-cuff, willy-nilly, I wouldn't trust those people because they're just saying what it takes to get your business.

I've lost a bunch of clients because I tell the truth and I know the other lawyers that they're talking to are lying to them, are puffing or inflating things.  I refuse to do it!  If you want to hire one of those lawyers, go ahead.

Our Law Firm Will Tell You The Truth

If you're going to hire the Hedding Law Firm, you're going to hire somebody who's going to fight for you and do everything that they can.  If a motion is applicable, of course we'll file it.

If it's a case that should be dismissed, we're going to do everything we possibly can to try to get it dismissed, but we're not going to lie to you.  We're not going to inflate things.  We're going to tell you the truth.

So, be weary of the internet.  Be weary of who you're talking to and what they're saying.  My officer manager has worked for me for over 20 years.

He knows what he's talking about.  He's an honest guy and he's not gonna say anything that's not true.

So, pick up the phone.  Call the Hedding Law firm if you want to get it straight.  Set up a meeting with Ron Hedding.

If you've got a criminal case and you need help, I can tell you what the pitfalls are.  I can tell you where you stand and I'm going to do everything I can to help you once you retain my law firm.
