Criminal Defense Attorney in the City of Norwalk, CA

Norwalk is a long-standing old courthouse that has been around and it's the big brother to Downey court.  All the felony cases that go past preliminary hearing or even at preliminary hearing in Downy will get moved to the Norwalk court.

So, it covers a pretty big area over there.  It borders up against Orange county and it's been known as one of the toughest courthouses in Los Angeles county.

I've been practicing in the city of Norwalk now for the last 26 years, handled hundreds of cases there — big jury trials, big murder cases.  So, I have a lot of experience not only with the history of the Norwalk courthouse, but also with handling cases there.

Dealing with the DA's office.  Right now, as I make this post in 2020, I think the Norwalk courthouse is much more reasonable than they have been as far as prosecution goes even over the last 20 years.

I remember one of the judges saying that our resolutions are much more tough than Orange county at one point when I was practicing there.  That was a big statement because Orange county is known to be one of the toughest prosecution-oriented District Attorney's office.

Experienced Lawyer for Felony Cases

So, if you've got a case in the Norwalk court and you want somebody that knows how to fight a felony case, a tough attorney that has experience now with just negotiating and resolving cases, but also with fighting them because sometimes you have to fight and you've got to have a hammer behind you in order to get the resolution that you need for your client.

Criminal Defense Attorney in the City of Norwalk, CA

Pick the phone up.  We can talk about your case.  What I have you do is kind of break everything down for me and I'll relate that to the city of Norwalk, what's going on there.  It is a very conservative city.  The jury pool is pretty tough there.

I think that's part of the reason that sometimes you might hear people call it “no walk” as it relates to criminal defense and that's because juries have always known to be conservative and tough on defendants.

But listen, if somebody's innocent and you can show that they're innocent, obviously it doesn't matter where the case is you should be able to win the case if you've got the evidence and you can how the jury that the person is not guilty.

Negotiating Your Criminal Case

That's one of the first things that I try to do if you have a case and have a Norwalk court appearance coming up and you were arrested by the police out there, what we'll do is we'll sit down and talk about what happened, what you think your responsibility was in what happened and whether we're going to fight the case or whether we're gong to try to negotiate the case.

If you know anything about Norwalk, if they've arrested you and they filed a case against you, most of the time those cases are going to be resolved by way of a negotiated plea.

Of course, a person is wrongfully arrested and wrongfully accused, and then you have to stand up and fight and obviously, you want to have a champion by your side to do that.

So, that's the first thing we need to decide — whether we're going to fight it all the way, whether we're going to try to negotiate it or maybe we're going to do the preliminary hearing and do some damage to the prosecution's case because they've over-charged you and they need to be aware that they've over-charged you by seeing how weak their evidence is.
