Norwalk is a long-standing old courthouse that has been around and it's the big brother to Downey court. All the felony cases that go past preliminary hearing or even at preliminary hearing in Downy will get moved to the Norwalk court.
So, it covers a pretty big area over there. It borders up against Orange county and it's been known as one of the toughest courthouses in Los Angeles county.
I've been practicing in the city of Norwalk now for the last 26 years, handled hundreds of cases there — big jury trials, big murder cases. So, I have a lot of experience not only with the history of the Norwalk courthouse, but also with handling cases there.
Dealing with the DA's office. Right now, as I make this post in 2020, I think the Norwalk courthouse is much more reasonable than they have been as far as prosecution goes even over the last 20 years.
I remember one of the judges saying that our resolutions are much more tough than Orange county at one point when I was practicing there. That was a big statement because Orange county is known to be one of the toughest prosecution-oriented District Attorney's office.
