| Man pleads not guilty in strangulation of ex-girlfriend |
| Posted By Admin |
 |
In a hearing at the Vista branch of San Diego County Superior Court, Michael David Robles pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping and first-degree murder in the death of Kathleen Cary Scharbarth, 34, of Carlsbad.
According to prosecutors, Robles allegedly strangled Scharbarth in her home Nov. 23 minutes after she walked a new boyfriend to his car. Scharbarth's 13-year-old daughter was asleep in the home.
Robles then cleaned up evidenc of the struggle and took Scharbarth's body to a remote canyon and buried it in a shallow grave, prosecutors said.
Scharbarth's family reported her missing the next day, and her body was found Saturday. Hours after, Robles was arrested.
Days before her murder, Scharbarth filed a domestic violence claim against Robles and received a restraining order against him.
Robles is being held without bail. He is facing charges of murder by lying in wait, which mean he could possibly get the death penalty. Robles had purchased tickets to Mexico, suggesting he planned to flee the area to avoid police, prosecutors say.

| Seal Beach Shooter, Scott Dekraai, pleads not guilty |
| Posted By Admin |
 |
Teary-eyed friends and family of the Seal Beach salon shooting victims sat in court and watched as the man accused in the most deadly shooting rampage in Orange County history pleaded not guilty to eight counts of first-degree murder and a single count of attempted murder.
Scott Dekraai, 42, appeared alert and responsive as Orange County Superior Court Judge Erick L. Larsh spoke with him in court.
According to reports, Dekraai, wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with several guns, walked into Salon Meritage on Oct.12, shot his ex-wife Michelle Fournier, and then turned his gun on other salon clients and employees, including shop owner Randy Fanin. There was a single survivor.
Dekraai had been involved in a bitter custody battle with Fournier over their 8-year-old son.
Paul Wilson, husban of shooting victim Christy Wilson, told reporters that the news of the day was not Dekraai's plea but the "innocent lives that Scott took from us."
"It's a real tragedy and we have to deal with that every day going forward," he said.
"It's going to be weird throughout the holidays without my sister," said Craig Burke, brother of Michelle Fournier.
A preliminary hearing for Dekraai is scheduled for April 24.

| Suspect Found in Fatal Shooting of 3-Year-Old Girl |
| Posted By Admin |
 |
Authorities arrested a suspect in the shooting of two 3 year old girls and a pregnant woman. The 19-year-old man fired shots at a crowded front porch on Monday allegedly out of revenge. One of the 3-year-old girls died, the other 3-year-old and her pregnant mother were injured. According to reports, an hour before the incident, a Good Samaritan saw the suspect beating up a woman and interfered, allowing the woman to escape.
"We're happy, of course. This individual can't hurt anybody else," said John Prendergast of Hesperia, the uncle of La-Donna Howie, the 21-year-old pregnant mother who was shot. "To shoot a little child, this guy has no conscience whatsoever."
According to Prendergast, the family was told by investigators that video surveillance from a security camera at a nearby store helped them identify the suspect. The video caught the suspect beating the other woman and the the Good Samaritan who saved her.
"They found the girlfriend first, and they were working on her to give information about the guy, but she didn't want to at first," Prendergast said. "I guess that changed."

 |
Javaris Crittenton, 23, a onetime Los Angeles Lakers player wanted in an Atlanta slaying. It is alleged that he is now in California.
Authorities allege that Crittenton fatally shot Jullian Jones on August19, 2011 in the woman's driveway in Atlanta.
Crittenton had reported that he was robbed of some jewelry prior to the shooting. He might have mistaken Jones for the thief when he opened fire from his vehicle as he drive by.
Jones was struck in the leg and later died during surgery. Two men with Jones fled and were not injured, and investigators now believe one of those men was the intended target.
The FBI told the Associated Press on Sunday that it was trying to locate the former basketball player in California but would not be more specific.
Crittenton was drafted by the Lakers in 2007 but traded his rookie year.
If Crittenton is found, he is likely to be charged with murder or a lesser offense. The charge of murder is the highest crime and faces penalties that are extremely harsh.

| 23 Year Old Man Found Guilty on Three Counts of Murder |
| Posted By Admin |
 |
|
After deliberating since Thursday, the jury returned the verdict for Andrew Gallo today. He was found guilty in the deaths of Los Angeles Angels pitcher, Nick Adenhart, and two others. He was also found guilty on other charges, including hit-and-run and driving under the influence of alcohol and causing great bodily injury.
Gallo was driving with a suspended license at the time of the crash, and his blood-alcohol level was almost three times the legal limit. In May of 2006, he had pleaded guilty to drunk driving. As part of his plea deal, Gallo had agreed that he could be charged with murder if he continued to drive drunk and killed somebody.
In California, you could be charged with a felony DUI, if someone was injured or died while you 1.) drove under the influence, 2.) either committed an additional vehicle code violation or drove in an otherwise negligent manner. Prosecutors can charge you with a felony DUI in one of three ways.
- Under California Vehicle Code 23513 VC - Driving under the influence causing injury,
- With DUI vehicular manslaughter, or
- With DUI second-degree murder
Which felony DUI you will be charged with depends on your criminal history and the unique facts of your case.
If you are facing felony DUI charges, call The Hedding Law Firm today at 818-986-2092! Our Los Angeles DUI attorneys will gather all necessary information related to your case and place every effort into your defense. |

| 9-Year-Old Son Recounts Parents' Murder, Culprit Finally Found |
| Posted By Admin |
 |
On the night of May 20, 2009, parents of Joshua Packer, Brock and Davina Husted, were stabbed to death in their home in the Faria Beach Colony, but Husteds' two children were not harmed during the attack. Brock Husted, 42, was in charge of a Santa Barbara wrought-iron business. His wife, Davina Husted, 42, was active in a women's philanthropic organization -- the National Charity League.
On the night of the murder, a gunman dressed in black -- wearing a motorcycle helmet to conceal his face -- forced the family to the ground, demanding jewelry and money. Davina Husted told her son to hand over her and Brock's wallets to the intruder. Shortly after, the boy saw his parents walk down to the back room with the intruder behind. He later heard his mother shriek and saw the killer escape. When the boy went to check on his parents he saw that they had bled profusely as well as the kitchen butcher knife that had been used to murder his parents. The boy then went to find his sister, and the two decided to escape through their parents' bathroom window to call for help.
Unsolved for almost a year, detectives were finally able to tie a culprit to the murder -- 20-year-old Jonathan Packer. Detectives were able to link him to the crime because of the DNA evidence left on a motorcycle helmet visor they found. Packer was arrested earlier this year for armed robbery of a gas station. In April he was charged robbery and burglary, as well as three counts of murder. His trial is set to take place in March.
An accusation of murder is one of the most serious charges a person can face. In California, for intentional homicide you will be facing either a first or second degree murder charge. First degree murder is when an intentional death results due to malice aforethought, premeditation, on the part of the killer. Second degree murder is a homicide that is intentional, without malice or premeditation, and takes place in the heat of passion, such as in a domestic violence situation. Both 1st and 2nd degree murders are felony offenses in the state of California and will be punished severely.
Your constitutional rights are very important to us! We will fight to obtain the best outcome for your particular case. Contact a lawyer at the Hedding Law Firm today for a free consultation regarding your murder case.

| Woman Lands In Prison For Vehicular Manslaughter |
| Posted By Admin |
 |
A jury convicted Suzanne Amelia Carlson, 27, of second-degree murder. Carlson was sentenced 15 years to life in prison after she rear-ended a truck and killed a passenger; she was inebriated while driving on the 91 Freeway.
In court, witnesses testified that Carlson had been drinking at a restaurant for approximately two hours. Shortly after Carlson drove a man's sedan; he sat in the passenger seat of his car. As she entered the 91 Freeway, she rear ended the back of a FedEx truck, destroying the right side of the sedan. Carlson escaped through the sunroof, but her passenger remained stuck inside. An attempt was made to remove the passenger, but he was unable to overcome the internal injuries that he sustained.
Testing revealed that Carlson drove with a BAC (blood alcohol level) of 0.22, which is about three times that of the legal limit. Perhaps the most troubling prospect of all is Carlson's record: she had been convicted of three other DUIs in the past, forced to take alcohol-awareness courses.

| Food Network Personality Plots To Murder Wife |
| Posted By Admin |
 |
Juan-Carlos Cruz, most commonly known as a Food Network personality, was charged on Monday with solicitation to commit murder and attempted murder. Prosecutors allege that Cruz asked at least two Santa Monica homeless to kill his wife in exchange for money. His co-workers and neighbors described him as a community volunteer, dedicated churchgoer, and loving husband.
Santa Monica police detectives went undercover for a weeklong investigation until they arrested Cruz. The authorities learned of Cruz's plot when one of the homeless men he solicited told the Santa Monica police. Cruz is said to have had provided the homeless with a weapon and cellphone. Other sources later said that he wanted one of the homeless men to strangle his wife.
Cruz had his first court appearance in the Los Angeles County Superior Court where he pleaded not guilty. If he is found guilty he could be facing a life term in prison.
