| Ex-Detective Facing Kidnap and Rape Charges |
| Posted By admin |
 |
Anthony Nicholas Orban, a former Westminster police detective, has been accused of kidnapping a woman from Ontario Mills mall in 2010 and raping her at gunpoint. He now faces kidnapping and rape charges of a 25 year old waitress who was attacked when she was leaving work.
The woman managed to escape during the attack and reach the authorities. Orban's friend, Jeff Thomas Jelinek, a corrections officer at the Chino Institution for Men, picked up Orban and drove him back to the mall.
Orban had left his police service weapon in the victim's car, which Ontario police later recovered.
In 2011, Jelinek pled guilty to being an accessory to a crime and agreed to testify against Orban.
Orban's main defense is that he was under the influence of anti-depressants and was not in control of his actions. The difference between Orban arguing a good defense is whether or not he has an outstanding, aggressive, and knowledgeable criminal defense attorney in his corner.

| Ex LAPD Detective Lazarus Convicted of First Degree Murder; Faces 27 Years |
| Posted By Admin |
 |
Former Los Angeles Police Detective Stephanie Lazarus, was found guilty of murdering the wife of a man who had rejected her; the 1986 slaying of Sherri Rasmussen, a 29-year-old nursing director.
Three months prior to the murder, Rasmussen had married John Ruetten, who had dated Lazarus casually for a few years.
Thursday's verdict brought to an end to a remarkable case in which a new generation of the LAPD redeemed the failures of a past one.
The case went cold for years as Lazarus built a successful career as a specialist in art fraud and theft cases. She married another LAPD detective and the couple adopted a young girl.
The case went cold and then was reopened in 2009. The advances in DNA testing helped lead back to Lazarus after a saliva sample taken from a bite mark on Rasmussen pointed to a woman.
Undercover officers followed Lazarus for weeks and eventually got hold of a cup she tossed in a garbage can and rushed it to the lab.
Jurors heard from DNA experts who testified that the test results were unambiguous: It had been Lazarus' saliva in the bite mark.
Lazarus was convicted of first degree murder will be sentenced on May 4th and faces 27 years. A corrections official stated that she may be eligible for parole after about 14 years.
