Los Angeles School Police Officer Allegedly Fabricated Shooting Story
Posted By Admin
The Los Angeles police officer that was allegedly shot by an attacker last week at El Camino Highschool, was arrested on Thursday night on suspicion of fabricating the story. Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said detectives became suspicious about the officer's story as they investigated the case. Los Angeles Police Department Officer Jeff Stenroos was booked on a felony charge of filing a false police report. The Los Angeles Police Protective League called the case an "embarrassment to law enforcement."

A senior LAPD official told The Times that authorities arrested Stenroos after he allegedly admitted to fabricating the story. The protective vest Stenroos wore shows obvious signs of having been struck by the bullet and Stenroos suffered bruising to his chest. Detectives are wondering if the officer shot himself accidentally and then made up the story. "Obviously it's as shocking to us as it is to anyone else," Steven Zipperman, chief of the Los Angeles School Police Department, said.

If you have been accused of filing a false police report, it is imperative that you hire an attorney. The criminal defense attorneys at the Hedding law firm will work hard to collect all the facts pertaining to your case and give your case the proper attention to get a positive outcome. Petro was expected to be arraigned this morning in San Fernando. According to authorities, the case arouse from a dispute that Petrov allegedly had with another professor in the school's math department.

The Death Penalty May Face More Changes and Regulations
Posted By Admin
The only U.S. maker of the anesthetic used in executions announced Friday that it will stop manufacturing sodium thiopental. Discontinuing the drug in California will cause the state to revise laws governing executions and those seeking supplies from foreign makers may be turned away by countries that condemn capital punishment.

According to Elisabeth Semel, a UC Berkeley law professor, the state's new protocols specify use of sodium thiopental as the first drug in the three-injection sequence, and any substitution would  require the state to again revise the protocols.

Kent Scheidegger, legal director of the Criminal Justice Legal Foundation, said, "Long-term, I expect that the states will follow the lead of Oklahoma and switch to another drug without a supply problem. Short-term, this requires going through the cumbersome regulation process with comment-spamming by the anti-death-penalty crowd." He suggests that the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation start the legal revision immediately "so as to have it completed before an actual supply problem delays and denies justice again."

According to Richard Dieter, director of the Death Penalty Information Center, said states with the death penalty will now have to turn to a different anesthetic or seek sodium thiopental from a foreign supplier, "both of which have pitfalls."

U.S. District Judge Jeremy Fogel has been reviewing California's new lethal injection procedures and is expected to rule soon on whether they comply with the Constitution's ban on cruel and unusual punishment.
